Stop Looking Over Your Shoulder
As I’ve mentioned I have this new business idea that I think is awesome. I’m excited about it. Well, excited and nervous. I’m going to pursue it, but I’m knee deep in the numbers, making sure this thing can make money. It’s not a tech solution to a knotty problem, it’s not set up to be the “next big thing,” though it could be in five years if I get the scaling piece right. So, why am I sharing this?
When you’re starting something new you absolutely must do your homework. You need to be acutely aware of your audience’s needs, and who else in the marketplace might already be doing what you want to do.
But you can also do too much poking around. Too much looking over your shoulder. It can stop you from just getting started. I was just introduced to another company recently that is doing something a bit like the idea I want to launch. At first, I was like, no way, this can’t be good. I felt so deflated. And because I was already feeling a little burnt out, I had this fantasy of throwing in the towel, taking the path of least resistance. But then I calmed down and realized this was only proof that I was onto something.
Starting something new is never going to be easy. You’re not going to hit a home run in a minute, others are going to look like they are doing much better than you.
If you’re ever going to make something new, you need to be smart but keep your eyes on the road ahead. Too much looking over your shoulder can lead to fear and stop you in your tracks. Now, I’m already thinking of ways I can partner with this awesome existing entity.
